All about

The Mission:

To launch a generation of high school graduates who possess the skills, confidence, and mindset necessary to navigate the world around them in a practical, meaningful, and mindful manner.

Who we are:

The BridgeUP Program, located at Cardinal Hayes High School, is a free, non-profit, co-ed after-school program that supports underrepresented youth from low-income New York City communities.  From 9th grade through high school graduation, the BridgeUP Team is there for its BridgeUP Scholars, providing tuition assistance, long-term mentorship, academic support, and a safe space for social connection with their peers. Together we help Scholars discover what truly motivates them to succeed, identify their goals & set their future vision, and provide them with opportunities to develop the skills & mindset they need to keep pushing forward.

BridgeUP’s programming is designed to meet the academic and developmental needs of its Scholars during the high school years, with specific support focused on these four areas, which we call the 4 Program Pillars:

  • academic support

  • post-secondary readiness & planning

  • social & emotional learning

  • cultivating compassion and self-discovery

Program staff, known as Youth Coaches, are responsible for mentoring cohorts of about 25 students each and are deeply committed to supporting each Scholar be as successful as they can be. Youth Coaches are invested in supporting Scholars recognize their strengths and areas for growth, set and achieve individual goals, learn skills to effectively manage one's time, priorities, & emotions, and become more effective communicators, collaborators, critical thinkers, and problem solvers.

In addition to Youth Coaches, BridgeUP is staffed each afternoon by a number of Tutors who provide Scholars with academic support based on the needs of the Scholars. Whether it's "1 to 1" or "small group" tutoring, our goal is to empower Scholars to ask for help when they need it, and to be open to the support when offered. There is no subject area in which we can't provide support.

4 Year Program SEQUENCE:

Across the top of this chart are BridgeUP's 4 Program Pillars. Down the left side of this chart are the Program Years associated with a Scholar’s high school enrollment. Each year includes program components that cover each of the 4 program pillars, with the focus being slightly different for each year, reflective of the developmental/social/academic needs/focus of that particular year in high school.
